DIY Paper Plate Peacock — Easy Craft for Kids

India’s national bird, the peacock, is famous for its stunning, colorful feathers. In this fun and easy craft, we’ll turn a simple paper plate into a beautiful peacock you can proudly display at home!

What You’ll Need:

  • 1 paper plate
  • Blue, green, purple, and yellow paint (or crayons/markers)
  • 1 sheet of colorful construction paper (for the tail feathers)
  • Googly eyes (or a black marker)
  • Orange paper (for the beak)
  • Glue and scissors
  • A paintbrush

Step 1: Paint the Plate
Paint the paper plate blue or a mix of blue and green — this will become the peacock’s body. Let it dry completely.

Step 2: Make the Tail Feathers
While the plate dries, cut out 8-10 teardrop or oval shapes from the colorful construction paper. Paint or draw a small circle (“eye”) near the top of each shape in a contrasting color, like peacock feathers have.

Step 3: Attach the Feathers
Once the plate is dry, glue the feather shapes around the back edge of one half of the plate, fanning them out like an open peacock tail.

Step 4: Add the Face
On the front half of the plate, glue on the googly eyes and a small triangle of orange paper for the beak. You can also add a little crown of three small feather shapes on top of the head!

Step 5: Final Touches
Use a marker to add small dot patterns on the peacock’s neck to mimic real feather textures. Let everything dry fully before displaying.

Fun Fact for Kids: Only male peacocks (called “peafowl”) have the giant, colorful tail feathers — they use them to attract a mate, kind of like showing off a beautiful cape!

Hang your finished peacock on the wall or use it as a centerpiece for your next art showcase. Happy crafting! 🦚
